In November 2016, The Chronicle of Higher Education will mark its 50th anniversary. To lead up to the occasion, we’ve chosen front pages featuring some of our reporting on key events in higher education and capturing the zeitgeist of the nation’s colleges and universities over the years.
The Chronicle begins its 50th year of publication this week. Corbin Gwaltney, the founding editor, recalls the deadline day of the first issue: "We read until we were gray with fatigue. We were exhausted but deliriously exhilarated — until someone remembered that, two weeks from now, we would have to do the whole thing again."
In this space, The Chronicle will feature front pages from throughout our history during the coming months.
