Nathan French participates in a weekly online chat for his biotechnology class at U. of Maryland University College, which has the most graduate students taking classes online among four-year public institutions.

Students and faculty members are demanding that more information be delivered in ways that are in sync with the devices and applications they use every day. Libraries have obliged, by acquiring thousands of e-books, and universities are enabling more students to learn without coming to campus.
