Chief executives


Adam Breerwood, vice president for Pearl River Community College’s Poplarville campus and Hancock Center, will serve as president of the college. He will succeed William Lewis, who will retire in June after leading the institution for 17 years.

David Ellis, who has served as vice president and general counsel at Lewis & Clark College for the past 13 years, was appointed interim president of the college.

Vernon Dale Jones was named chancellor and chief academic officer of Pennsylvania State University- Wilkes-Barre. Mr. Jones joins the university from Hampden-Sydney College, in Virginia, where he was vice president for strategy, administration, and board affairs. He succeeded Charles Davis.

James Vander Hooven, vice president for enrollment management at Landmark College in Putney, Vt., will be the next president of Mount Wachusett Community College, in Massachusetts. The current president, Daniel Asquino, will retire when Mr. Vander Hooven takes office on March 19.

John Wilson Jr., president of Morehouse College, plans to step down when his contract ends in June.


Charles Davis, chancellor of Pennsylvania State University at Wilkes-Barre, has retired after 11 years in office.

Dan Lunsford, president of Mars Hill University, plans to retire next year. He will have led the university for 15 years.

Steve Chen, former chief information officer for Hudson Valley Community College, to chief information officer for the Community Colleges of Spokane.

Bea Gonzalez, dean of University College, special assistant to the chancellor, and liaison to the Posse Foundation Scholarship Program, to vice president for community engagement at Syracuse University.

J. Michael Haynie, executive director of the Institute for Veterans and Military Families, to vice chancellor for strategic initiatives and innovations at Syracuse University.

Sandra Kaiser, communications director for the Washington State Department of Natural Resources, to vice president for college relations at Evergreen State College.

Christopher Nomura, a professor of chemistry, to vice president for research at the State University of New York College of Environmental Science and Forestry.

Sidney Parrish Jr., associate director of institutional effectiveness and assessment, to vice president for institutional effectiveness and strategic initiatives at Newberry College.



Karen Allen, a professor of nursing at Andrews University, to dean of the College of Nursing and Health Professions at Valparaiso University.

Augustine Choi, chair of the department of medicine, to dean of Weill Cornell Medicine and provost for medical affairs at Cornell University.

Xinjian Lu, associate dean of California State University-East Bay’s College of Business and Economics, to interim dean of the college.

Saeed Moaveni, professor of mechanical engineering at Minnesota State University at Mankato, to dean of the College of Technology and Computing at Utah Valley University.

Alexander Sidorkin, former dean of the Graduate School of Education at National Research University Higher School of Economics, in Moscow, to dean of the College of Education at California State University at Sacramento.


Jagdish Agrawal will retire at the end of January as dean of the College of Business and Economics at California State University-East Bay. He has worked at the university for 26 years.
