Chinua Achebe, the Nigerian-born author who was a professor of Africana studies at Brown University and a past professor at Bard College, died in Boston on March 21. He was 82. His first novel, Things Fall Apart, has been widely taught and read.
Robert Wilensky, a professor emeritus of computer science at the University of California at Berkeley who built up its program in artificial intelligence, died of a bacterial infection on March 15. He was 61. Among his contributions was the development of the UC Berkeley Digital Library Project, which made library materials available online in the early days of the World Wide Web.
