Homelessness among college students is a problem that few people are even aware of, much less working to alleviate, says Eleanor J. Bader, an adjunct instructor of writing at Kingsborough Community College of the City University of New York.
College students can become homeless for many reasons. Some flee abusive relationships. Others lose their housing when they cannot pay for it because of a lost job, lack of child support, illness, addiction, or insufficient financial support from family members, she says.
