Beverly J. Warren, provost and senior vice president of Virginia Commonwealth University, will become president of Kent State University on July 1. She will succeed Lester A. Lefton, who is retiring after holding that job since 2006.
Alice P. Gast, who has been president of Lehigh University since 2006, will become president and rector of Imperial College London in September. She will succeed Sir Keith O'Nions, who is retiring.
Steve Gamer, associate vice chancellor for development at the University of California at Los Angeles, takes over this month as vice chancellor for advancement at the University of California at San Diego. He will also serve as president of the UC San Diego Foundation.
Kathryn B. Symank, who was associate vice president for human resources and administrative services at Texas A&M University at College Station, has joined Northwestern University in Qatar as chief operations officer. She succeeds David Carr, who is returning to the university's Evanston, Ill., campus to serve as associate vice president for cyber infrastructure.
Timothy L. Hall, who has been president of Austin Peay State University since 2007, will become president of Mercy College, in Dobbs Ferry, N.Y., on May 13. He will replace Concetta M. Stewart, who has served as interim president since July.
William T. Greenough, a professor emeritus of psychology at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and a pioneer in studies of brain development, died in Seattle on December 18, of complications of Lewy body dementia. He was 69. He is credited with showing that the brain's sensory and motor systems are not largely fixed for life but develop new synapses in response to environment, exercise, and learning. He was on the faculty from 1969 until 2009, when he retired.
