Donald (Guy) Generals Jr., vice president for academic affairs at Mercer County Community College, has been named president of the Community College of Philadelphia, effective July 1.

Michael Tilson Thomas, music director of the San Francisco Symphony since 1995, will become a professor of music at the University of Southern California in the fall of 2015. Students will have a chance to be mentored by him.

The Rev. Paul J. 
Fitzgerald, senior vice president for academic affairs at Fairfield University, will be the next president of the University of San Francisco. On August 1, he will succeed the Rev. Stephen A. Privett, who has led the institution since 2000.


Dianne Boardley Suber was fired this month as president of Saint Augustine’s University, in North Carolina. She had led the university, which is having financial problems, for 14 years.

dt ogilvie will step down as dean of Rochester Institute of Technology’s Saunders College of Business, after less than two years in the role, and become a professor of urban entrepreneurship at the university on June 30.


Marian F. (Pagano) Matheson, 
director of institutional research 
and planning at Amherst College, died on April 4, of cancer. She was 55. She had worked earlier at 
Columbia University and Tufts University.

Charles S. Stone Jr., a journalism professor at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill from 1991 to 2004, died on April 6. He was 89. A longtime journalist, he helped found Fair Test, the National Center for Fair and Open Testing.
