Given that it was barely two weeks ago that I recommended decluttering one’s gadgets, it might seem odd for me to keep multiple email applications on my phone, but I do.
There’s a reason for that. In an effort to maintain some semblance of work-life balance, I’ve turned off all email notifications on my phone (even icon badges — I don’t want my email checking me), and I make it a point not to check work email after early evening.
Reading email from family and friends, however, doesn’t feel like work or drain my energy. I want to read that email, often at times that I don’t want to read work-related communications.
Yet, checking my personal account in an application that’s set up to handle multiple accounts is just asking for trouble; if I see that a work-related email is there while checking my personal account, I’m likely to end up reading it.
That’s why I’ve installed a second application for use with only my personal account. It leaves me free to check that account without getting distracted by other accounts during those times I’ve designated work email off-limits.
What about you? Are there some tasks for which you have more than one application installed on your phone? Let us know in the comments.Return to Top
