Arizona Lawmaker Says His Bill to Allow Guns on Campuses Is Dead

The author of a bill in the Arizona Senate that would allow gun owners with concealed-carry permits to bring their firearms onto public university and college campuses says the measure is dead, the Associated Press reported. Under the bill, colleges could ban guns only if they provided secure storage lockers—a condition that the state university system said would cost millions of dollars to meet. The bill’s sponsor, State Sen. Ron Gould, a Republican, disputed the system’s cost estimate. He championed a similar bill last year that won legislative approval but was vetoed by Gov. Jan Brewer.
