College Enrollment Declines for 4th Straight Year

Overall college enrollment has dipped for the fourth straight year, according to an annual report released on Wednesday by the National Student Clearinghouse Research Center.

According to the report, overall enrollment has dropped 1.7 percent since last fall, a slightly sharper decline than the one measured in the previous year. The steepest drop by sector was at four-year for-profit institutions (13.7 percent) and two-year public colleges (2.4 percent).

The report notes that the decline was driven primarily by students over the age of 24 leaving higher education.
