Congressional Advisory Panel Calls for Easing of Regulatory Burden on Colleges

In a report issued today, the Advisory Committee on Student Financial Assistance urges Congress and the Education Department to take steps to streamline 15 regulations that college administrators and executives have identified as among the most burdensome. The report describes colleges’ recommendations for improving the rules but does not endorse any of the suggestions, citing the report’s methodological limits. Instead it calls on Congress to create two review panels for the recommendations, and it asks the Education Department to assess which changes it could make administratively.
