Duke U. Settles Lawsuit by 38 Former Lacrosse Players

Duke University has reached an out-of-court settlement with more than three dozen members of its 2005-6 men’s lacrosse team who sued the institution in connection with a controversy that erupted after a stripper falsely claimed that she had been raped at a lacrosse-team party in 2006. The Herald-Sun, a newspaper in Durham, N.C., reported that one of the players’ lawyers and a Duke spokesman confirmed that the case had been settled, but they called the terms confidential and would not discuss them. Duke had previously reached a settlement with three indicted players after charges against them were dropped. Those players are involved in pending lawsuits against Durham over the police department’s handling of the case.
