Former Football Player Sues U. of Louisville After Locker-Room Incident

A former University of Louisville football player, Patrick Grant, is suing the university and its football coach in the aftermath of a 2010 incident in which, Mr. Grant says, he was beaten by two other players in the team’s locker room and was then told to lie about how bones around his left eye had been broken. According to the Associated Press, a doctor subsequently advised Mr. Grant to stop playing football, and the coach, Charlie Strong, promised that his football scholarship would be continued. The next January, however, the scholarship was withdrawn without a hearing, in violation of National Collegiate Athletic Association rules, the suit alleges. Mr. Grant is seeking to have the scholarship restored and to be awarded damages.
