Alabama State U. Teams Get Clearance for Postseason Play

Four of the historically black university’s teams were among 18 that the NCAA last month barred from postseason play for poor academic progress. The university said in a news release that the NCAA had rescinded that penalty against the university’s football, baseball, men’s basketball, and women’s volleyball teams after the institution was given the opportunity to submit additional data.

After the initial APR penalties were imposed against the baseball, volleyball, football and men’s basketball teams, Hines said ASU was given a period in which it could submit additional data.

“Once the NCAA evaluated that additional academic performance data, assessed our ASU Academic Improvement Plan and reviewed us according to its Limited Resource Institution component, the NCAA staff determined that ASU will not be penalized,” Hines said.
