Baylor U. Hospital Will Pay $900,000 to Settle Medicare-Fraud Allegations

The settlement, announced on Tuesday, stemmed from a whistle-blower lawsuit filed in 2010 by a Baylor radiation oncologist. The lawsuit said the doctor’s contract with Baylor had not been renewed after he and another employee accused the university of submitting false Medicare claims.

A Justice Department spokesman said he didn’t know whether any Baylor patients were harmed and could only comment on what is in the government’s legal documents.

Baylor’s statement said, in part, “The issue we resolved with the government was over billing. Absolutely no patients were harmed and we have consistently maintained that there was appropriate physician supervision.”
