Former UVa Lab Researcher Wins More Than $800,000 in Whistle-Blower Suit

Weihua Huang had accused his supervisor of firing him in retaliation for raising questions about alleged misuse of a grant from the National Institutes of Health. A federal jury awarded him compensation for back pay after his dismissal and $500,000 in damages.

University spokesperson McGregor McCance declined to comment on whether the University had conducted an internal investigation into the allegations against Li. “The University is evaluating the case, but other than that, I can make no further comment,” he said.
