Georgetown U. Is Latest to Cut Ties With Adidas Over Labor Concerns

A Georgetown official told Adidas in a letter this week that the university had followed through on an internal committee’s recommendation to cut ties with the sports-apparel company. Several other institutions have also ended their relationships with Adidas, over accusations that the company owed money to workers at an overseas manufacturing plant that closed in 2011. The company disputes those claims.

“As a Catholic and Jesuit university, deeply committed to the dignity of all persons and human labor, Georgetown University is steadfast in its commitment to improving the working conditions and lives of workers involved in the production of apparel that bears its name or logo,” Smulson wrote.
The letter indicates, however, that Georgetown might someday renegotiate a contract with Adidas.
