Oregon Approves In-State Tuition Break for Immigrant Students

Oregon’s State Senate on Thursday approved a measure granting in-state tuition rates to some students who came to the United States illegally as children. Lawmakers in Colorado earlier this month approved similar legislation.

Senators narrowly approved tuition equity 19-11, with three Republicans joining with all 16 Democrats in support. It will likely become law as Gov. John Kitzhaber has promised he will sign it.
