Many Community-College Students Are Misplaced Into Remedial Courses, 2 Studies Find

Tens of thousands of community-college students are at risk of being inaccurately placed in remedial courses, says a pair of studies released by the Community College Research Center. The studies—one of a large urban community-college system and the other of a statewide system—found that a quarter to a third of entering students whose test scores placed them in remedial classes could have gotten a B or better in college-level courses. High-school grade-point average was a much better predictor of student success at colleges, the studies found.
