NCAA Punishes Northeastern State U. for Violations by Former Tennis Coach

The NCAA has placed Northeastern State University on one year of probation and fined the Oklahoma institution $5,000 after finding that a former head coach of its women’s tennis team provided improper benefits to some players, the association announced on Wednesday.

The association said its Division II Committee on Infractions had found that for two consecutive years the former coach, Ron Cox, gave six athletes a total of $1,300 in cash, and provided players with meals, gifts, and other benefits. The NCAA penalized Mr. Cox with a two-year “show cause” order, limiting his ability to be hired by another NCAA member institution. He retired last November.
