Southern Methodist U. Suspends Fraternity for Alleged Hazing

Southern Methodist University has suspended a fraternity that allegedly hazed new members, forcing them to wear clothing that was covered in vomit and paddling them, according to The Dallas Morning News.

In a letter sent to parents of students on Wednesday, the university said it had found evidence that the Beta Lambda chapter of Kappa Alpha deprived members of sleep and forced them to eat peppers and onions and drink milk until they vomited, the Morning News reported. The investigation was the result of reports of hazing during the spring semester.

A spokesman for the fraternity’s national organization told the Morning News that it had also suspended the chapter, “due to violations of our risk-management policy.” The spokesman also said the chapter would return to the campus in 2021.
