State-Colleges Association Will ‘Reimagine’ First Year of College

The American Association of State Colleges and Universities will team up with 44 institutions to “reimagine the first year of college” with an eye to the success of students who come from low-income or minority backgrounds or who are the first in their family to attend college.

According to a statement released on Monday, the project, which is funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and the organization USA Funds, is aimed at easing the attainment of a college degree. The participating campuses will focus on four key areas, according to the release: “institutional intentionality, curriculum redesign, changes in faculty and staff roles, and changes in student roles.”
