U. of Kansas Cheerleaders Are Suspended From Squad Over ‘KKK’ Snapchat

Four University of Kansas cheerleaders have been suspended from the squad after a photo captioned “Kkk go trump” was posted to one cheerleader’s Snapchat account, according to the Lawrence Journal-World.

In the Snapchat photo, three male cheerleaders wearing sweaters emblazoned with the letter “K” for Kansas are posing side by side.

“Unacceptable,” the university’s athletics department posted to Twitter on Monday. “This behavior won’t be tolerated.” The university’s official Twitter account added, “There is no place for this in our community.”

On Tuesday morning one cheerleader denied posting the offending Snapchat and told the athletics department that someone had taken her phone at a party and posted it, a university official told the Journal-World.

“I’m appalled that a snapchat was put out on my snapchat and posted on my account,” she posted to Twitter on Monday. “I would never of done that & I apologize that it happened.”

The university’s official Twitter account posted on Tuesday that all four cheerleaders had been “suspended from performing and will remain suspended while Kansas Athletics and the university complete their inquiries.”

Update (11/22/2016, 2:18 p.m.): This post has been updated to indicate that all four cheerleaders have now been suspended from the squad, not just the one whose Snapchat account was used to post the photo.
