U. of Phoenix to Lay Off 700 Workers, Mostly in Admissions

The University of Phoenix, which recently announced that it would radically slow the pace of its enrollment growth, said on Monday that it was laying off about 700 people, most of them in admissions. In a corporate filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, the university’s parent company, the Apollo Group, said the reductions were designed “to streamline our operations and to better align our operations with our business strategy, refined business model, and outlook.”
