Tired of planking? Students at Purdue University demonstrate what could be the Next Big Thing on college campuses: Batmanning.

John D. Boyer, the Virginia Tech instructor who wrote the colorful, controversial Plaid Avenger’s World geography textbook, beseeches Martin Sheen and his son Emilio Estevez to make a stop in Blacksburg, Va., as they promote their film The Way.

During a performance Saturday at the University of Texas at Austin, Rice University’s Marching Owl Band took a jab at the presidential aspirations of Gov. Rick Perry, a graduate of another rival university, Texas A&M.

Ryerson University assembled 567 students last week in an attempt to break the Guinness World Record for largest maracas ensemble. University officials expect Guinness to confirm that the students toppled the existing record of 407 participants in Manchester, England, in 2006.
