When has misunderstanding a due date led a student to submit something EARLY?

Is it maybe 1 time out of 100?  1 in 500?  I am trying to remember how many times it has happened to me in 20+ years of teaching.

It happens every other semester or so in my classes.  I am bemused each time.

All of my due dates are deliverable windows, so technically I always get things turned in early.

It just happened to me last week. Two months early. I gave the paper back to the student and said to think about it, revise it maybe, and turn it back in in April, when it's due.

But yes, it's pretty rare. I can't remember the last time it happened.

Every so often I get a student prepared for an exam that isn't happening quite yet.
