A Digest of Recent Corporate News in Distance Education

  • SGI will develop software for an online-learning center planned by the Hebrew University of Jerusalem School of Medicine. In addition to virtual classrooms, the e-learning facility will include modeling programs and information databases for university students. (Link to press release.)

  • Lambton College, in Sarnia, Ontario, will offer courses from InfoCast Corporation to start an online information-technology curriculum. InfoCast will create and maintain a portal for the courses. (Link to press release.)

  • Stanford University has collaborated with gelDesign, an Internet design company from San Francisco, to create a Web site for the university's Center for Professional Development. The center delivers academic programs through television, video, and the Internet. (Link to press release.)

  • William Mitchell College of Law and Concord University School of Law, an online institution owned by Kaplan Inc., will collaborate on an online trial-advocacy course available to students at both schools. A professor from William Mitchell College will oversee course content, while a dean from Concord University will handle distance-learning issues. (Link to press release.)

  • Saba, a management-consulting company, will provide Internet courses for the University of Wisconsin System's Reach Out program, which offers education options to migrant families and children. (Link to press release.)
