
The Chronicle begins its 50th year of publication this week. Corbin Gwaltney, the founding editor, recalls the deadline day of the first issue: “We read until we were gray with fatigue. We were exhausted but deliriously exhilarated — until someone remembered that, two weeks from now, we would have to do the whole thing again.”
