The Chronicle begins its 50th year of publication this week. Corbin Gwaltney, the founding editor, recalls the deadline day of the first issue: “We read until we were gray with fatigue. We were exhausted but deliriously exhilarated — until someone remembered that, two weeks from now, we would have to do the whole thing again.”
In this space, The Chronicle will feature front pages from throughout our history during the coming months.
