
On August 29, Hurricane Katrina flooded most of New Orleans, ending the fall semester just when it was beginning at Dillard University, Xavier University of Louisiana, Southern University, Loyola University New Orleans, Delgado Community College, and Tulane University, among other colleges. The damage threatened the future of several institutions, where recovery work went on for months. So did The Chronicle’s news coverage, including a compelling account of Tulane’s “war room,” in Houston, where President Scott S. Cowen oversaw the effort. “There is no road map for this,” he said. “We’re writing it as we go along.”
