“The Trump Prophecy,” a film produced by Liberty U. and a Christian filmmaker there, will be released this fall.
Liberty University is producing a film about a man who says God told him that Donald J. Trump would be elected president, The Washington Postreports.
The movie, The Trump Prophecy, is slated for nationwide release this fall. It follows the story of Mark Taylor, a former firefighter who says he received the divine prophecy about Trump in 2011. Its trailer depicts a Liberty theater professor playing Taylor in a montage of firefighting scenes, telling his captain that God was speaking to him.

Stephan Schultze, a Christian filmmaker who directs Liberty’s cinematic-arts program, is the film’s director. It is produced by Rick Eldridge of Reelworks Studios, based in Charlotte, N.C., the Post reports.
Liberty film students were involved in the movie’s production, an opportunity that Schultze said offers them hands-on experience and a résumé boost, according to the Post.

The Trump Prophecy is also attracting controversy from some Liberty students and alumni. A petition calling for production of the film to stop has drawn more than 1,900 signatures. The petition says the project is at odds with Liberty’s mission, “to be a light on a hill and to train champions for Christ,” because it promotes Taylor as a modern-day prophet.
The petition also expresses concern for Liberty cinema students, saying they’re being forced to be part of a “heretical” film. According to the petition, “many do not want this movie on their résumé, and some are even considering using aliases on IMDB or dropping out.” IMDB is an online database of movies.
Schultze told the Post that only one student had opted out of participating in the film’s production.
Since Trump’s election, Jerry Falwell Jr., president of Liberty University, has aligned himself closely with the president, saying in an interview that he believes Trump could be “the greatest president since Abraham Lincoln.” Trump also gave Liberty’s 2017 commencement address.
Falwell told The Chronicle last year that he would be tapped to lead a federal task force on higher-education regulations, though it’s still unclear what role he will take on.
