On Wednesday, The Chronicle published an article examining what it means to have a tattoo as an academic in 2017. In response, academics were quick to show off their ink on social media, while sharing some of their concerns about being tattooed.
We’ve collected some of the offerings below. You can read the original story here:
Just one of my tattoos visible here. As a PhD student, I do feel the need to cover up all my tattoos sometimes, but in casual / day-to-day settings I don’t care that much. I love all my ink! pic.twitter.com/B5VFENrIGJ

Others didn’t share their tattoos but did offer thoughts on the inked academic body.
I will also suggest that pitting academics against veterans and bikers suggests that professors are not also veterans and bikers. I served my country, I rode a motorcycle and then a scooter for years, and I teach history. Wha?!?!

Thank you! Yes the hand will have to wait. Plenty of skin left on other parts of my body to keep me going until then! Great to hear about academics with tattoos...it’s inspiring somehow!

And we’ll keep an eye out for this possibly forthcoming thread:
I’m so tempted to start a thread for academics to share photos of their tattoos, but I’ve got too much to do this morning. Maybe I’ll feel more exhibitionist later
