Jay Clune, interim graduate dean at the University of West Florida, will become president of Nicholls State University, in Louisiana, on January 1. His predecessor, Bruce T. Murphy, will step down at the end of the year.
William R. Groves, a lawyer and interim chancellor of Antioch University since April 2016, was named chancellor on a permanent basis. He joined the university in 2010, when he was hired to form the office of general counsel.
Roger A. Ramsammy, aformer president of the West Campus of Miami Dade College, will become president of Hudson Valley Community College. The current chief executive, Drew Matonak, will retire in August 2018, after 13 years in the job.

John P. Pelissero, provost and chief academic officer at Loyola University Chicago, will take a leave of absence starting January 1. He will step down as provost on June 30 and return as a professor of political science for the 2018-19 academic year. He has served as provost since 2010, aside from the 2015-16 academic year, when he was the university’s interim president.

Eduardo J. Padrón, president at Miami Dade College, received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Netter Center for Community Partnerships at the University of Pennsylvania, in recognition of his leadership and contributions to higher education.
Tracy K. Smith, director of the creative-writing program at Princeton University, was named U.S. Poet Laureate Consultant in Poetry for 2017-18 by the Library of Congress.
Deaths

Mary Edmonds, former vice provost for student affairs at Stanford University, died on October 11. She was 85. Before joining Stanford, Ms. Edmonds held administrative posts at Bowling Green State University and Cleveland State University.
Sul Kassicieh, a professor at the Anderson School of Management at the University of New Mexico who was known for his promotion of entrepreneurship, died of cancer October 18. He was 65.
Arjay Miller, dean of the Graduate School of Business at Stanford University from 1969 to 1979, died on November 3. He was 101. Before his appointment at Stanford, Mr. Miller was president of Ford Motor Company from 1963 to 1968.
Emile R. Mohler III, a professor of medicine at the University of Pennsylvania who specialized in cardiology and vascular medicine, died from Lou Gehrig’s disease on October 13. He was 56. He was one of two people named Master Clinicians of the Year by the Society of Vascular Medicine this year.
Haskell Moorman Monroe Jr., chancellor of the University of Missouri at Columbia from 1987 to 1991, died on November 13. He was 86. Before joining Missouri, Mr. Monroe Jr. served as president at the University of Texas at El Paso from 1980 to 1987.
