CHIEF EXECUTIVES

Appointments

Maenette Ah Nee-Benham was named chancellor of the University of Hawaii-West Oahu. Ms. Benham is dean of the School of Hawaiian Knowledge on the university’s Manoa campus.

Rabbi Ari Berman, head of Hechal Shlomo Jewish Heritage Center in Jerusalem, will become president of Yeshiva University in July.

Appointments

Maenette Ah Nee-Benham was named chancellor of the University of Hawaii-West Oahu. Ms. Benham is dean of the School of Hawaiian Knowledge on the university’s Manoa campus.

Rabbi Ari Berman, head of Hechal Shlomo Jewish Heritage Center in Jerusalem, will become president of Yeshiva University in July.

Beverly Davenport was selected as chancellor of the University of Tennessee at Knoxville, making her its first female leader. Now interim president of the University of Cincinnati, she will begin her new post, pending board approval, on March 1.

Dennis DePerro will become president of St. Bonaventure University in June. He is now dean of the Purcell School of Professional Studies at Le Moyne College.

E. Clayton Hess, provost and vice president for academic affairs at Lincoln Memorial University, will become the institution’s president in July. He will succeed B. James Dawson, who plans to step down next year.

Nagi Naganathan was named president of the Oregon Institute of Technology. Mr. Naganathan is dean of the College of Engineering at the University of Toledo and previously served as interim president there, from 2014 to 2015.

Jennifer Orlikoff was appointed president of Potomac State College of West Virginia University. She has served as interim president since July 1.

CHIEF EXECUTIVES

Resignations

Debora Spar, president of Barnard College since 2008, will step down in March to become president and chief executive of the Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts. She will be its first female leader.

Appointments

Jonathan Holloway, dean of Yale College and a professor of African-American studies, history, and American studies at Yale University, to provost at Northwestern University.

Lester Johnson, assistant dean of rural health initiatives and professor of clinical surgery, to vice chancellor for academic affairs at Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center at Shreveport.

Christopher Brown, former vice president for research in the University of North Carolina system, to vice president for research at the University of Alabama at Birmingham.

Kevin Heaney, acting vice president for development at Princeton University, was appointed its first vice president for advancement. Mr. Heaney has worked in fund-raising leadership for more than 20 years.

Brian Hutzley, vice president for finance and administration at Colgate University, to vice president and chief financial officer at Centre College.

Steven Libutti, professor and vice chair of the department of surgery and a professor in the genetics department at Albert Einstein College of Medicine of Yeshiva University, and director at Montefiore Einstein Center for Cancer Care, to vice chancellor for cancer programs at Rutgers Biomedical and Health Sciences and director of Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey at Rutgers University.

Raphael Moffett, vice president for student affairs at Langston University, to vice president for student affairs at Texas Southern University.

John Tyson, president of Rochester College (Mich.), to vice president for advancement at Faulkner University.

Luis Vazquez, associate vice president for research integrity, to interim vice president for research at New Mexico State University.

DEANS

Appointments

Sharon Matusik, senior associate dean of faculty and research and professor of strategy and entrepreneurship, to interim dean of the Leeds School of Business at the University of Colorado at Boulder.

Resignations

Charles Nelson plans to step down as dean of the law school at Faulkner University in June. He will have led the school for 13 years.

Gilbert Collins, director of graduate student life, to director of global health programs and associate director of the Center for Health and Wellbeing in the Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs at Princeton University.

Veronica Thierry Mallett, professor of medicine, to an additional role, senior vice president for health affairs and dean of the School of Medicine, at Meharry Medical College.

FACULTY

Appointments

Robert McDonnell, a former Virginia governor and an alumnus of Regent University, will join the university in January as a distinguished professor. He will teach in the Robertson School of Government and help establish the Governor’s Center for Federalism and Civility, a program meant to help states understand their role in a federal society. Mr. McDonnell and his wife, Maureen, were found guilty of federal corruption charges in 2014, but the conviction was vacated by the Supreme Court in 2016.

Cornel West, the African-American-studies scholar, will return to teach at Harvard University after 14 years away from the institution. He will hold joint appointments in the Harvard Divinity School and the department of African and African American studies as a professor of the practice of public philosophy. In 2002, Mr. West broke from Harvard to teach at Princeton University after a dispute with the president at the time, Lawrence Summers.

William Harvey, 84, dean emeritus of the Robert H. McKinney School of Law and professor emeritus of law at Indiana University-Purdue University at Indianapolis, died on November 17.
