Chief executives

Appointments

Jeff Elwell was selected as president of the Eastern New Mexico University system. He will succeed Steven Gamble, who has led the university for 16 years and will retire at the end of July. Mr. Elwell is dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.

Greg Gillespie, president of Ventura College, was promoted to chancellor of the Ventura County Community College District, in California. Mr. Gillespie will start his new position on July 1. He will take over from Bernie Luskin, who has been serving as interim chancellor since May 2015.

The Rev. Herbert Keller will serve as interim president of the University of Scranton from this coming June through June 30, 2018, after which the Rev. Scott R. Pilarz will take office as president. Father Keller is rector of the Scranton Jesuit community and a longtime member of the university’s Board of Trustees.

Edward Montgomery, a labor economist, was named president of Western Michigan University. Mr. Montgomery will join Western Michigan on August 1 from Georgetown University, where he serves as dean of the McCourt School of Public Policy. He will succeed John Dunn, who had planned to retire on June 30 but will now continue through July 31.

Roger Stanford, vice president for academic affairs at Western Technical College, in Wisconsin, was appointed the college’s next president. He will succeed Lee Rasch, who will retire on June 30.

Resignations

James Conneely, president of the University of Maine at Augusta, has announced that he will resign on June 30.

Thomas Krise will step down as president of Pacific Lutheran University when his contract ends in May, but will remain at the university as a professor of English.

John Lahey, president of Quinnipiac University, in Connecticut, has announced that he will step down on June 30, 2018. He will have led the university for more than three decades, during which time the university grew from about 3,000 students to 10,000.

Retirements

Tom Case, chancellor of the University of Alaska at Anchorage since 2011, will retire on June 30.

Jean Hernandez, president of Edmonds Community College, in Washington, since 2011, plans to retire at the end of this year.

Roger Sublett, president of Union Institute & University, in Ohio, plans to retire on June 30, 2018. He will have led the university for 15 years.

Gail Baker, dean of the College of Communication, Fine Arts, and Media, and executive associate to the chancellor at the University of Nebraska at Omaha, to provost and vice president for academic affairs at the University of San Diego.

Deans

Appointments

Edward Abraham, dean of Wake Forest School of Medicine, in North Carolina, to dean of the Leonard M. Miller School of Medicine at the University of Miami.

Rodney Bowden, a professor of health education and interim chair of the Robbins College of Health and Human Sciences at Baylor University, to dean of the college.

Prentice Chandler, an associate professor of education and former associate director of teacher education and leadership at the University of Cincinnati, to dean of the Martha Dickerson Eriksson College of Education at Austin Peay State University.

Anne Dichele, interim dean of the School of Education at Quinnipiac University, has been appointed permanently to the post.

Harold Felton, an assistant director, assistant professor, and physician assistant in the School of Health Sciences at Touro College and a retired U.S. Army colonel, to director of the physician-assistant program in the Murphy Deming College of Health Sciences at Mary Baldwin University.

Katherine Gustafson, campus auxiliary dean, to assistant dean of the Western Michigan University Cooley Law School’s Tampa Bay campus.
