The average published tuition and fees for full-time undergraduates increased beyond the rate of inflation, which was 2.1 percent from December 2016 to December 2017, for two- and four-year public and four-year private nonprofit institutions. The costs at four-year private nonprofit bachelor’s institutions had the greatest percentage increase, and two-year public institutions had the smallest.
