Among institutions with the highest shares of nonresident aliens on their full-time instructional staffs in the fall of 2015, the status of those employees varied. At the University of Kentucky and Reed College, for instance, nearly two-thirds of such employees were tenured faculty members, whereas at the University of Massachusetts at Worcester, 95 percent were without faculty status. At Savannah State and Clarkson Universities, close to three-quarters of those nonresident aliens were on the tenure track.

Notes: Figures cover only instructional staff members who worked full time in the fall of 2015. Research professors who were not involved in instruction are not included. Only institutions with at least 50 full-time instructional staff members in the fall of 2015 were considered for the rankings, but the overall figures include all institutions. Percentages are rounded, but institutions were ranked before rounding. Percentages for faculty status at each institution may not sum precisely to 100 because of rounding. “Nonresident aliens” are non-U.S. citizens or foreign nationals who are in the United States legally but who have not been given the privilege of residing permanently in the United States as an immigrant.
