A former student at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology has created a list of a thousand colleges and universities that have World-Wide Web pages.
Christina DeMello, who now works for a high-tech company in California, says she developed the directory while she was working for M.I.T.'s office of computing support services. Her job was to help design a Web page for the institute, so she began compiling a list of what other institutions had put on line.
“I basically combed the net,” she says, noting that she still spends about an hour a week adding new institutions and keeping track of computer addresses that have changed.
