Endowment Assets per Full-Time-Equivalent Student at 4-Year Colleges, 2013-14

Median assets per full-time-equivalent student were more than four times greater at private nonprofit institutions than at public institutions. At private nonprofit colleges with endowment-asset values per FTE student in the highest 10 percent, the per-student amount far surpassed the published charges for an undergraduate education.

Note: The value of endowment assets is based on data for 516 public and 1,034 private nonprofit four-year institutions at the end of the 2014 fiscal year. The average endowment per student for each decile was calculated by ordering the institutions in each sector by assets per student and dividing the students in the sector into deciles. Total assets in institutions enrolling 10 percent of students in the sector (one decile) were divided by the number of students in those institutions.
