Starting this fall, college football players may be well advised to lay off advice from Madonna to “strike a pose.”
In Madonna’s parlance, a pose is a dance move. In football, to pose is to mimic the position of the statue on the Heisman Trophy, the annual award for the top player in college football.
Athletes typically strike the Heisman pose to celebrate a big play. But officials of the National Collegiate Athletic Association say the gesture is unsportsmanlike and plan to assess a 15-yard penalty against the offender’s team.
