Median Increase in Senior Administrators’ Salaries, by Sector and Type of Institution, 2012-13 to 2016-17

Overall percentage pay increases for administrators have exceeded the inflation rate for the past five years. From 2015-16 to 2016-17, administrators’ salaries increased more at public institutions than at private ones. The previous year, the opposite was true.

Note: Results for 2016-17 figures are based on aggregate salary information from 1,125 colleges and universities (including seven systems) for 191 administrative positions. Data were collected in late 2016 and early 2017. Inflation is based on the annual Consumer Price Index for all urban consumers for the calendar year in which the academic year began.
