The University of Mary Washington’s governing board fired William J. Frawley as president on Monday, two weeks after a bizarre sequence of events in which he racked up two drunken-driving charges in two days. In a brief statement the Board of Visitors said that Mr. Frawley had been terminated “for cause,” effective immediately.
According to The Free Lance-Star, the announcement followed a five-hour board meeting. Under the terms of Mr. Frawley’s contract, termination for cause means that he is not entitled to any severance payments or benefits. The board appointed an acting president last week. —Andrew Mytelka
