How it is defined under federal law: Unwelcome conduct of a sexual nature that is severe or pervasive and produces an offensive, intimidating, or hostile environment that interferes with a person’s ability to do his or her job. For example, a string of sexual remarks, unwanted touching, or requests for sexual favors could be considered harassment. Many states use the same or similar standards.
