The Common Core State Standards are meant to help prepare schoolchildren for college or the work force. But many higher-education institutions are not fully cooperating in putting those standards in place, according to a survey released on Wednesday.
While the standards have already been adopted in 45 states, state education agencies overseeing public elementary and secondary schools in 16 of those states reported that it was a “major” challenge to work with public colleges to enact the new learning goals, reported the Center on Education Policy at George Washington University, which conducted the survey. Education agencies in 19 other states said working with higher education was a “minor” challenge, the survey found.
