In a 2011-12 study, Harvard’s Collaborative on Academic Careers in Higher Education asked 13,510 professors at 69 colleges and universities to rank their satisfaction with numerous aspects of their jobs on a scale from 1 to 5, with 1 being the least satisfied and 5 being the most satisfied. The numbers shown are the means for each category. The categories where the mean numbers are specified denote areas where associate professors are significantly less satisfied than both of their peer groups.
