The Fulbright U.S. Scholar and Fulbright U.S. Student Programs are sponsored by the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs to support academic exchanges between the United States and over 150 countries around the world. Almost 600 U.S. higher-education institutions actively participate in the Fulbright program. Top-producing institutions with the most Fulbright U.S. scholars in 2020-21 are listed directly below, followed by a separate listing of institutions with the most Fulbright U.S. students. Ten doctoral, two master’s, four baccalaureate, and one special-focus institution, all highlighted with boldfaced text, were top producers of both U.S. scholars and U.S. students in 2020-21.
In response to recent program adaptations to prioritize the health, safety, and well-being of participants and host communities, the 2020-21 Fulbright data reflect the total number of awards offered, rather than the number of awards accepted, as in past years.

Note: Data reflect awards offered for the 2020-21 academic year and are current as of February 1, 2021. Tied institutions are listed alphabetically. Categories are based on the 2018 Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education. Special-focus institutions are those where a high concentration of degrees is in a single field or set of related fields. The Fulbright U.S. Scholar Program offers teaching and research grants for college and university faculty and administrators, as well as for professionals, artists, journalists, scientists, lawyers, independent scholars, and others. The Fulbright U.S. Student Program provides grants to college graduates, graduate students, and early-career professionals for individually designed study or research programs, and English teaching assistantships abroad.
