Top Producers of Fulbright U.S. Scholars and Students, 2022-23

The Fulbright U.S. Scholar and Fulbright U.S. Student Programs are sponsored by the State Department’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs to support academic exchanges between the United States and over 150 countries around the world. The Fulbright U.S. Scholar Program offers teaching and research grants for college faculty and administrators, as well as for professionals, artists, journalists, scientists, lawyers, independent scholars, and others. The Fulbright U.S. Student Program provides grants to college graduates, graduate students, and early-career professionals for individually designed study or research programs and English-teaching assistantships abroad. Top-producing institutions with the most Fulbright U.S. scholars in 2022-23 are listed directly below, followed by a separate listing of institutions with the most Fulbright U.S. students. Nine doctoral institutions, three master’s, five baccalaureate, and one four-year special-focus institution, all highlighted with boldfaced text, were the top producers of both U.S. scholars and U.S. students in 2022-23. Eighteen institutions — including the University of Houston-Downtown, this year’s top producer of scholars among master’s institutions — were new to the lists this year. The Fulbright data reflect the total number of awards offered for the 2022-23 program year.
