David E. Van Zandt,president of New School since 2011, plans to step down at the end of the 2019-2020 academic year.

John L. Derry,president of Hope International University since 2003, plans to retire on August 15.
Pamela A. Eibeck,president of University of the Pacific since 2009, plans to retire on July 1.
Kathy Hart,president of San Joaquin Delta College since 2012, plans to retire in September. She was the first woman to lead the college.
David L. Levinson,president of Norwalk Community College and vice president of community colleges for the Connecticut State Colleges and Universities, plans to retire from both posts on June 30. He will remain as a presidential fellow with the Connecticut State Colleges and Universities for a year after his retirement.

Deaths
Floyd F. Feeney,a professor of law at the University of California at Davis, died on January 8. He was 85. Feeney was a founding faculty member of the School of Law. He joined the faculty in 1968 and remained an active faculty member until his death.

Roy J. Glauber,professor emeritus of physics at Harvard University, died on December 26. He was 93. Glauber received a Nobel Prize in Physics in 2005 “for his contribution to the quantum theory of optical coherence.” He attended Harvard as an undergraduate, interrupting his studies during his sophomore year in 1943 to work on the Manhattan Project.
Joseph N. Hankin,president of Westchester Community College from 1971 until he retired in 2014, died on January 16. He was 78. His 42 years at the helm of the college made him the nation’s longest-serving community college president at the time he retired.
Nils Hasselmo,president of the University of Minnesota from 1988 to 1997, died on January 23. He was 87. Hasselmo oversaw the 1991 closure of the Waseca campus, as well as a renewal of the university’s committment to undergraduate education.
Sonny Johansson,professor emeritus of pathology and microbiology at the University of Nebraska Medical Center, died on December 27. He was 76.

Warren D. MacKenzie, an influential potter and a former professor of art at the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities, died on December 31. He was 94.
Mary Miles,an associate teaching professor of English and history at Pennsylvania State University at University Park, died suddenly on January 6. She was 47.
Jessica Nielsen,an assistant professor in the University of Nebraska Medical Center College of Nursing, died unexpectedly on January 5. She was 43.
