Jean Maria Arrigo, a psychologist and whistle-blower who exposed the collusion between the American Psychological Association and the Defense Department leaders on the torture of terror suspects in the wake of 9/11, died on February 24. She was 79.
Sherman Day, a former president of the University of North Georgia, died on March 20. He was 86.
Ramona Edelin, the first chair of the Afro-American studies department (later renamed African American studies) at Northeastern University, died on February 19. She was 78.
Daniel Kahneman, a professor at Stanford University who received the 2002 Nobel Prize in Economics with Vernon L. Smith, of George Mason University, died on March 27. He was 90.
Shani Mott, a lecturer in the Center for Africana Studies and the department of history at Johns Hopkins University, died on March 12. She was 47.

Marjorie Perloff, a professor emerita of humanities at Stanford University, died on March 24. She was 92. Perloff was a literary critic and champion of avant-garde poetry, and taught at the Catholic University of America, the University of Maryland, and the University of Southern California.
