Jerry Weber,president of Bellevue College, in Washington, since 2017, will step down. This comes after the text on a mural about the internment of Japanese Americans during World War II was altered by one of the college’s vice presidents.

Teresa Amott,president of Knox College, in Illinois, since 2011, plans to retire at the end of the 2020-21 academic year. She is the first woman to serve as president of the college.

Deaths
Henry J. Abraham,a professor emeritus of politics at the University of Virginia, died on February 26. He was 98. Abraham wrote several books on civil rights and law, including Freedom and the Court: Civil Rights and Liberties in the United States (Oxford University Press, 1967).

William E. Gardner,a former dean of the College of Education at the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities, died on February 16. He was 91.
Lawrence Markus,a retired professor of mathematics and founder of the Center for Control Science at the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities, died on January 18. He was 97. Markus taught at the University of Chicago before leaving to work on the Manhattan Project during World War II. He also taught at Harvard, Princeton, and Yale before joining the faculty at Minnesota.
