Robin L. Garrell,vice provost for graduate education and dean of the graduate division at the University of California at Los Angeles, has been named president of the City University of New York Graduate Center. She will replace James L. Muyskens, who has served as interim president since July 2019.

John D. Gossett,president of McDowell Technical Community College, in north Carolina, has been named president of Asheville-Buncombe Technical Community College. He succeeds Dennis King, who retired in January.

Deaths
Ray P. Authement,a former president of the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, died on April 5. He was 91. He became acting president in 1973 and was named to the post permanently the next year. He led the university for 34 years, until his retirement in 2008.
Steven C. Beering,president emeritus of Purdue University at West Lafayette, died on April 6. He was 87. Beering led the university from 1983 to 2000.
David C. Driskell,an art scholar and former professor at the University of Maryland at College Park, died on April 1, as a result of Covid-19 complications. He was 88. An artist and curator, he taught at Maryland from 1977 to 1998. The university founded the David C. Driskell Center for the Study of the Visual Arts and Culture of African Americans and the African Diaspora in 2001.
William S. Talbott,a former faculty member in the science department at Stevenson University, in Maryland, died on March 15. He was 87. Talbott joined the university in 1989, when it was named Villa Julie College, and retired in 2011.
